The story of the greatest salvage operation of all time, the raising of the German High Seas Fleet which had been interned at Scapa Flow at the end of the First World War and was scuttled by the German crews in 1919. In 1924 the scrap metal firm of Cox & Danks, which had never before lifted a ship, bought the fleet and raised their first destroyer the V70 and eight years later having raised 26 destroyers, 4 battle-cruisers, 2 battleships and a light cruiser ceased operations. Then the firm which succeeded them, Metal Industries Ltd, lifted a battle-cruiser and 5 of the most difficult battleships. |
