The Wager, a 40-gun ship, accompanied Anson in his voyage of circumnavigation in 1740 in search of Spanish treasure ships but in terrible weather rounding the Horn she was parted from her companions and driven ashore on the Pacific coast of Tierra del Fuego. The survivers eventually reached England after advetures and privations. |
